About the album Blue Öyster Cult

The New Yorkers Blue Öyster Cult, having been formed in 1967 and after changes in name and members, eventually managed to capture the attention of Columbia Records in 1971. In October, they recorded their self-titled Blue Öyster Cult album, which was released in January 1972. Besides the five musicians who make up the band members, Sandy Pearlman also plays a significant role in the band's existence, writing songs, participating in the album's production, and being the manager of Blue Öyster Cult.

Therefore, the first album of Blue Öyster Cult is a combination of hard rock, heavy metal, which is still in its infancy, and psychedelic sound, which is in decline during that period. The song compositions are the result of collaboration among everyone. The band functioned with this logic even in the interpretation of the songs, as most songs are indeed performed by the voice of Eric Bloom, but in some others, Joe Bouchard, Albert Bouchard, and Buck Dharma also participate. The songs that stood out from this first album were Cities On Flame With Rock And Roll and Stairway To The Stars.

The album barely entered the Billboard Top-200, reaching No. 172.
