About the album Debut

Björk, in collaboration with British producer Nellee Hooper, wrote Debut, the first album of the Icelandic singer-songwriter and performer, aimed at the international market. The recordings for Debut took place from 1991 to early 1993, and the album was released in July 1993. Debut won over audiences and critics with its highly innovative sound.

Björk combines art pop with dance music, while the pure house element is not missing. Naturally, the main protagonist of the album is her unique voice. Debut resulted from the artist's decision to move to London after leaving the Sugarcubes and to focus more on electronic sounds, wanting to distance herself from the rock sound of the Sugarcubes. All five singles from the album received public recognition - primarily in Great Britain and many European countries. The success of Debut was not equivalent in the U.S., but it remains Björk's best-selling album on the other side of the Atlantic.

Sales of Debut have exceeded 5,700,000 copies worldwide. In the U.S., it reached No. 61 on the Billboard chart, but in countries such as the Netherlands, Iceland, Norway, Spain, and even New Zealand, it took a position in their Top-10. In the United Kingdom, it sold 600,000 copies and thus became double platinum.
