Check Your Head by Beastie Boys
About the album Check Your Head
In 1992, the Beastie Boys returned with their third studio album titled Check Your Head, which is very different from the previous one, Paul's Boutique, which had a clear hip-hop orientation. Check Your Head was to a large extent a return to the roots for the Beastie Boys, whose roots were in the punk-rock scene.
Of course, this cannot characterize the album as punk-rock in any case (unless one is to examine it from the aesthetic side only), as the rap-rock element is also strong here, combined with many alternative rock elements. On the other hand, musical experimentation overflows everywhere. Check Your Head offered singles like Pass The Mic, So What'cha Want, or Jimmy James, and was also the beginning of the collaboration between the three New Yorkers and producer Mario Caldato Jr., a partnership that lasted for the next few years. The reputation of the Beastie Boys grew with Check Your Head and brought them touring with the Rollins Band (!) as well as with Cypress Hill (!) This was no accident as the album's sound seemed to balance between the sound of these two groups.
Check Your Head reached No.10 on the Billboard. The album's sales in the USA exceeded 2,000,000 copies. The Beastie Boys managed to become double platinum with this album even in Canada (!)
