About the album Hello Nasty

In 1998, four years will have passed since the last work of the Beastie Boys, and it will be time for the fans of the hip-hop group to get their hands on the fifth studio album of the New York-based crazy crew titled Hello Nasty. The album in its first release was a double vinyl as its length approached seventy minutes and contained 22 songs. The title of the album is the phrase used by a receptionist - whom the Beastie Boys knew - as soon as he answered the phone.

The characteristic of the album in terms of its sound is that the Beastie Boys take elements and mix them from various music genres (electronica, latin, rock, etc.). Of significant importance was also their collaboration with DJ Mixmaster Mike. The production of Hello Nasty was undertaken by Mario Caldato Jr.

In its first week of release, the album sold 681,000 copies in the U.S. alone, which pushed it straight to No. 1 on the Billboard. It also reached the same position in Great Britain.
