About the album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
The hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan from New York managed in 1993 to release their first album titled Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), which would bring them to the forefront of the hip hop scene and shift interest from the West Coast of the United States back to the East Coast.
The sound of Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) bears no resemblance to the flawless and "polished" productions of the West Coast. The album's sound is wild, raw, and the lyrics of the songs deal with real ghetto issues in New York City. Violence, poverty, and injustice dominate the lyrics. Essentially, it is a hardcore hip hop album. The producer and mastermind behind the Wu-Tang Clan is Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, also known as RZA, who uses a very bare production without exaggerations and with loops derived from natural instruments.
The first two singles from the album, Protect Ya Neck and C.R.E.A.M., were what led the album to sell 3,500,000 copies worldwide. 3,000,000 of these were sold in the United States.
