About the album Deliver The Word
As unbelievable as it may sound, the soul/funk/rock band War from California reached their sixth album in just four years of recording presence with Deliver The Word in 1973. Although there is a dark element in their music here, the psychedelic component that characterized The World Is A Ghetto is missing. War is taking paths towards jazz rock.
The album managed to reach No. 6 on the Billboard charts and is the second most successful album of War's career from this perspective. This was supported by the great performance of the two singles that emerged from it, Gypsy Road (in a shortened version as its full length on the record exceeds 11 minutes) and Me And Baby Brother. As a result, Deliver The Word sold over 500,000 copies in the U.S. and became War's second consecutive gold album in their country. Two more would follow.
For the production of the album, Jerry Goldstein, Leroy Jordan, and Howard E. Scott worked, all of them founding members of the band.
