Rock & Roll by Vanilla Fudge
About the album Rock & Roll
The album Rock & Roll by Vanilla Fudge, released in September 1969 by Atco Records, is the fifth and final studio work of the band's original lineup. During the recordings, there was a lack of collaboration, with members often recording their own sections separately. This led to the breakup of Vanilla Fudge a few months after the album's release.
In contrast to their previous works, which were based almost exclusively on covers, Rock & Roll includes more original material written by the band's members, such as Need Love and Lord in the Country. Among the covers, the standout is the rendition of The Windmills of Your Mind, a cover (lasting over 8 minutes in some versions) of the classic song by Michel Legrand and Alan & Marilyn Bergman. The album's producer was Adrian Barber. Its musical style moves in the paths of hard rock and psychedelic rock, with Mark Stein's characteristic heavy Hammond organ and Carmine Appice's dynamic drumming heralding the arrival of heavy metal.
Rock & Roll reached No. 34 on the Billboard 200 in October 1969.
