About the album Isolation

In 1984, Toto found themselves at a critical crossroads. After the triumph of Toto IV, Isolation came to stir the waters with a more hard rock and AOR orientation, full of aggressive synths and massive productions. It was a time of great changes: Fergie Frederiksen took the microphone from Bobby Kimball, adding a power-rock aura, while Mike Porcaro was officially established on bass.

The album was recorded in various studios in Los Angeles (such as Record One and Sunset Sound), but also at Abbey Road Studios. David Paich remains the main composer, but Fergie Frederiksen contributed significantly (e.g., on Angel Don't Cry and the title track Isolation). The song Stranger In Town was initially recorded with Bobby Kimball on vocals, but eventually released with David Paich as the lead singer. Due to Frederiksen's departure after the Isolation promotion tour, few songs from this album remained in the band's live repertoire for the following decades.

Although the album went gold, it did not approach the success of Toto IV, reaching No.42 in the U.S. and No.67 in the United Kingdom. In the same year (1984), Toto also released the soundtrack of the movie "Dune".
