About the album Toto IV
After two albums that did not achieve the success of Toto's debut, the band from Los Angeles returned in 1982 with Toto IV, their fourth album, something symbolically represented by the four circles on the cover, and truly reached the pinnacle of their career.
The secret to success was that Toto expanded the range of musical genres they included in the album, following the recipe of their first album. One could hear from "hard rock" to yacht rock. The recordings lasted from June 1981 to January 1982 and the members of the band themselves were in the production. Toto IV would be the last album for bassist David Hungate, who would return after more than two decades.
Two of the five singles from the album, Rossana and Africa, made their own mark in the history of pop music for the 1980s. Toto IV sold 4,000,000 copies in the USA and 500,000 in Germany, while its worldwide sales as a whole approach 6,000,000 copies. The album won six Grammy awards and reached the Top-10 in many countries. Toto never repeated this success.
