About the album Head First

Head First is the fifteenth studio album by Uriah Heep. The album was recorded between January and March 1983 and was released in May of the same year. The album shows a huge departure from the sound and musical style that characterized Uriah Heep's albums during the 1970s, especially during the first half of the decade. Head First differs in its sound even from the 1981 album Abominog.

Uriah Heep have fully adopted the sound of the eighties. The position of progressive rock has been replaced by the AOR sound in a desperate attempt to conquer the U.S. market or to make the band sound contemporary and relevant to that era. Two songs stood out as singles from the album: Lonely Nights, which was a cover of a Bryan Adams song (!) from the Canadian artist's second album, and Stay On Top, composed by Tom Jackson. The other eight songs on the album are compositions mainly by Box, Daisley, Goalby, and J. Sinclair. The producer of the album was Ashley Howe.

Head First reached No. 46 in the United Kingdom, No. 159 on the Billboard chart, and No. 19 in Norway.
