American Doll Posse by Tori Amos
About the album American Doll Posse
In 2006, Tori Amos conceived the idea of writing a concept album whose main theme would deal with the position of women in society. Thus, inspired by five goddesses from ancient Greek mythology, she created five female personas who are the protagonists of the 23 songs on her ninth album, titled American Doll Posse, an album whose musical style leans towards rock music or more precisely towards Art Rock. The five personas and their corresponding Greek goddesses are as follows: Isabel (goddess Artemis), Clyde (goddess Persephone), Pip (goddess Athena), Santa (goddess Aphrodite), and Tori (goddess Demeter).
American Doll Posse was written and recorded between June 2006 and February 2007. All the compositions belong to Tori Amos, who, this time, particularly relied on her regular musical collaborators who were present throughout the album's creation period in the studio with Amos.
In its first week of release in the U.S., the album reached No. 5 on the Billboard chart. The songs proposed as singles were Big Wheel and Bouncing Off Clouds. American Doll Posse had an interesting trajectory in terms of commercial appeal both in Australia and in European countries (Germany, Finland, Austria, etc.)
