Renegade by Thin Lizzy
About the album Renegade
The album Renegade by Thin Lizzy was released on November 15, 1981, and is the band's eleventh studio album. The production was done by the band in collaboration with Chris Tsangarides. Its recording lasted from January to September 1981. This was the first album where the band appeared as a five-member group. Darren Wharton played keyboards and organ and was presented for the first time as an official member of the band.
The style of Renegade is characterized as hard rock with elements of heavy metal, but also incorporates more contemporary productions for the time. The characteristic "dual-guitar attack" (dual guitars) is maintained, although Snowy White brought a more blues aesthetic that differed from the group's traditional style. The presence of keyboards is more intense compared to previous works, adding a more atmospheric dimension. The cover depicts a hand holding a flag with a red star, in a minimalist and dynamic style. Despite the fact that Darren Wharton had become an official member, his photo was omitted from the back cover of the album, where only the other four members appeared.
Renegade had moderate commercial success compared to the band's past. It reached No.38 in the United Kingdom and No.157 on the Billboard.
