Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
About the album Live And Dangerous
Live and Dangerous from 1978 is not just a record; it is the "holy grail" of live recordings and the moment when Thin Lizzy transformed into immortal legends of rock. The double album was released on June 2, 1978 by Vertigo Records in Europe and Warner Bros in the USA.
When producer Tony Visconti realized there was no time for a new studio album, the band decided to unearth treasures from their archives. The material comes from three key venues: the Hammersmith Odeon in London (1976), the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia (1977), and Seneca College in Toronto (1977). The "magic" was completed at Studio Des Dames in Paris in January 1978. There, one of the biggest clashes in rock history erupted: Visconti later claimed that the album is 75% overdubbed (re-recorded in the studio), with only the drums and the audience remaining authentic. The band members, however, insisted until the end that the interventions were minimal, keeping the mystery alive behind the flawless energy of the record.
The commercial success was overwhelming. The album climbed to No. 2 on the British charts, losing the top spot only to the Grease soundtrack. It remained on the charts for 62 weeks and has sold over 600,000 copies in the United Kingdom alone.
