The Raven by The Stranglers
About the album The Raven
The fourth album by the Stranglers was released in September 1979 and in hindsight seems to close the first cycle of the band as their sound would take a different direction from the next record and for several more in the next decade.
The compositions feature the characteristic post-punk and new wave sound that the Stranglers' audience had become accustomed to. Jean-Jacques Burnel's bass is dominant, as are Dave Greenfield's keyboards. Martin Rushent is absent from the production. In The Raven, the band itself and sound engineer Alan Winstanley are involved.
The Raven is among the successful albums of the Stranglers and its sales have reached 100,000 worldwide.
