La Folie by The Stranglers
About the album La Folie
The Stranglers, with their sixth album entitled La Folie in 1981, want to return to the successes they had in the second half of the previous decade. They maintain their new wave sound, but the orientation of the album's production is to produce commercial hits.
Despite the earnest efforts of producer Steve Churchyard and Tony Visconti in the mix, it seemingly did not achieve the expected results as it did not enter the Top-10 in Britain. The era had changed, and adapting to the new sound was not possible for the Stranglers. It stopped at No.11, while over time the only song that remained with the general public was Golden Brown, or at best also the album's title track.
La Folie in French means "madness" and the Stranglers intended to talk about various types of madness caused by love in people.
