The Gospel According To The Meninblack by The Stranglers
About the album The Gospel According To The Meninblack
The fifth album by The Stranglers, titled The Gospel According To The Meninblack, was released in 1981 and was characterized by an intense experimental mood in its sound, as evidenced by the opening instrumental Waltzinblack. In reality, it was an effort to incorporate electronic music into their compositions.
The Gospel According To The Meninblack as a whole is a sound embedded in the new wave and post-punk movement, but it doesn't give you the sense of something interesting. The most likely reason is that almost all the compositions of the album were essentially things that started out for their previous album, The Raven, and ultimately either were not completed or were left out of the 1979 record. Initially, the members of The Stranglers considered The Gospel According To The Meninblack as their masterpiece. The producer of the album was Steve Churchyard in collaboration with the band.
The reality was different. The reviews the album received were rather negative, and the public turned its back on it despite the No. 8 it achieved in Great Britain.
