About the album The Tipping Point
The Roots use the title "The Tipping Point" from the book by Canadian author Malcolm Gladwell to title their sixth studio album, which was released in the summer of 2004. The edited cover photo alludes to Malcolm X.
The Tipping Point was recorded between September 2003 and April 2004. Beyond the hip hop that dominates the entire album, the other musical elements one can discern are those of soul, funk, and jazz. All these ensure a very good album that is worth listening to.
The highest position it reached was No. 4 on the Billboard from the first week of its release, selling 109,000 copies that specific week. The truth is that in European countries it did not experience similar success. Notably, it reached No. 71 in Great Britain.
