Phrenology by The Roots
About the album Phrenology
Phrenology of 2002 is the fifth studio album by The Roots from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The album was one of the best hip hop albums of the year, even reaching the point of being nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Hip Hop Album of the Year.
Phrenology finds, but also opens new paths in the hip hop scene in the early years of the first decade of the 21st century. With compositions such as Break You Off or Water, they earn the title of progressive rap. The musical experiments and the duration of these specific songs, which reach seven and ten minutes respectively, are groundbreaking for the hip hop scene. The big hit of the album was the song The Seed (2.0), which was also released as the second single from the record.
The album was successful mainly in the USA. It reached No. 28 on the Billboard and has sold over 500,000 copies so far. In the United Kingdom, it reached No. 112.
