About the album Their Satanic Majesties Request

The sixth album by the Rolling Stones was Their Satanic Majesties Request, which was released at the end of 1967. Here, the Rolling Stones adopted one of the dominant musical trends of the time, psychedelia, in their music. It is enough to listen to the song Sing This All Together (See What Happens). The album at its time was not considered successful. Inevitably, there was a comparison with the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which had been released six months prior, and the comparison was not in favor of the Rolling Stones. Additionally, Their Satanic Majesties Request was their first album released exactly the same worldwide, ending the double and different releases in the UK and the USA.

The album and its recording was an adventure for the band members as it took place during a period when the Rolling Stones were constantly in court. Moreover, their until-then manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham stopped being with them, and so the production of Their Satanic Majesties Request was handled by the band itself.

Nevertheless, this album includes songs like She's A Rainbow and 2000 Light Years From Home, about which one could comment that it "founded" the Madchester scene twenty years before its existence in the late 1980s. The album reached No. 3 in the UK and No. 2 in the USA.
