About the album The Who Sell Out

The Who Sell Out was the third studio album by The Who and was released in December 1967. The album's sound was The Who's proposal to the psychedelic era, which was at its peak at that time. In fact, it was The Who's adaptation to the new reality that was beginning since the mod era, which they had led, seemed to be coming to an end.

The album was based on an idea by the group's managers, Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp, who were also the producers of the record. The idea was for the band to record a concept album that resembled a broadcast from a pirate radio station, as this type of station played a crucial role in spreading mod culture in the mid-60s in Great Britain. For this reason, the listener of the album discovers some commercial jingles among the songs. The Who Sell Out released a single, I Can See For Miles, which entered the Top-10 in both the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The album is considered one of the most remarkable albums of the band. Its sales in The Who's homeland reached 60,000 copies, and it reached No.13 on the UK charts. The Who Sell Out reached No.47 on the Billboard chart.
