About the album Hackney Diamonds
In 2023, the Rolling Stones celebrate sixty years of discography and commemorate it with the release of their twenty-fourth studio album, titled Hackney Diamonds. The last work of the Rolling Stones that contained purely their own compositions was A Bigger Bang in 2005, as Blue & Lonesome was an album full of song covers. Here, there is only one cover of the song Rolling Stone Blues by Muddy Waters, from whom the band took their name.
Hackney Diamonds is the first album they recorded without their iconic drummer, Charlie Watts, as he had passed away in 2021. This album is characterized by collaborations with other big names in the music industry, such as Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and the band's former bassist, Billy Wyman. Andrew Watt – born in 1990 (!) – plays bass on most of the tracks and has also undertaken the production of most of the songs.
The album reached No. 1 in more than twenty countries. It won the Grammy for Best Rock Album. In Great Britain, it sold 100,000 copies.
