About the album Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!
Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! is not just a live album; it is the audio document of a band claiming the title of the "greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world" and winning it outright. Recorded in November 1969, primarily at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York, the album captures the Rolling Stones at their absolute peak. It is the moment when Mick Taylor has just replaced Brian Jones, infusing the sound with unprecedented skill and a blues vein. The production by the Stones themselves along with Glyn Johns highlights the rawness of the stage: the sweat of Mick Jagger is almost audible, while the guitars of Keith Richards "bite."
The tracklist is a seminar in rock dynamics, from the dark Midnight Rambler that extends into an epic blues ritual, to the stormy Jumpin' Jack Flash, Street Fighting Man, while a small seminar is given on how Chuck Berry's idol Carol should be played. The album cover is equally legendary: Charlie Watts poses on a highway, wearing the tour t-shirt, carrying guitars and drums loaded on a donkey – a surreal picture reflecting the band's humor and confidence.
The importance of the album lies in the fact that it set the bar for live albums. At a time when rock was becoming more complex, the Stones returned to their roots, offering a sound that is dirty, honest, and completely electrified. It remains, for many, the ultimate live depiction of rock mythology.
