The Psychedelic Furs by The Psychedelic Furs
About the album The Psychedelic Furs
In 1980, the year the self-titled debut of The Psychedelic Furs was released, the band already had three years of performance experience. Thus, with the guidance of producer Steve Lillywhite, they recorded ten post-punk songs in 1979, creating one of the most interesting albums of that specific genre, which had just begun to emerge.
The nine compositions of the album stood out for the sarcastic lyrics of Richard Butler, as well as for the interesting saxophone passages by Duncan Kilburn, which was a pioneering element for that time. From the album, there were two singles: "We Love You" and "Sister Europe," which, for a significant period at the beginning of The Psychedelic Furs' career, played the role of the opening song at their concerts. The American edition of the album did not include the composition "Blacks/Radio," but contained two other songs, "Susan's Strange" and "Soap Commercial."
"The Psychedelic Furs" reached No.18 in Great Britain and No.140 in the USA.
