About the album Hell’s Ditch
Hell’s Ditch from 1990 becomes the last album of the Pogues in which the band's founding member and singer, Shane MacGowan, will participate. This particular album sonically takes another step further from the band's original sound in their first albums. The musical orientation is towards a rock sound, while the folk elements are considerably limited.
Thematically, the album has many influences and references from Asia, like Summer In Siam and Sayonara, which were both the only singles from the album, while there are also references to Spain, with which at that time MacGowan had developed a slight obsession, something heard in Lorca's Novena. The producer of the album was Joe Strummer of the Clash (!)
Hell’s Ditch sold 60,000 copies in the United Kingdom and reached No.12 in the country.
