About the album Fiyo On The Bayou
The second studio album by the Neville Brothers from New Orleans was released in 1981 and was titled Fiyo On The Bayou. The album's producer is Joel Dorn. Due to the coexistence of so many different genres of soul and rock music in one album of eight songs, the Neville Brothers earned the title "The first family of New Orleans rock 'n' soul".
The album stood out with its fresh sound. Some of the songs were new compositions by the band, such as Fire On The Bayou or Run Joe, and others were the band's versions of songs by other artists, such as Jimmy Cliff's Sitting in Limbo or the traditional New Orleans song Jock-A-Mo, which here is titled Iko Iko. In the background vocals of some songs, we hear Whitney Houston and her mother, Cissy Houston (!)
The album did not have much luck in the charts, as it only reached No. 166 on Billboard. Despite its limited commercial success, Fiyo On The Bayou stands as one of the best and most interesting albums in the career of the Neville Brothers.
