About the album No One Can Do It Better

Tracy Lynn Curry, also known as The D.O.C., at the age of 21 collaborated with Dr. Dre in the production of his first album. The masterpiece No One Can Do It Better was released in 1989 and left many promises for the future. The hip hop presented by The D.O.C., although he is a rapper from the West Coast, does not resemble much the gangsta rap that was beginning to dominate the broader California area at that time.

The D.O.C. creates No One Can Do It Better with the hip hop groups from New York in mind, groups like RUN D.M.C. or Public Enemy. This is evident in the lyrics he writes, lyrics that deal with sociopolitical issues. Additionally, the samplings he uses are drawn from songs by Marvin Gaye, Parliament, and Funkadelic. Besides Dr. Dre, the other members of N.W.A. also passed through the studio to contribute to the creation of the album.

The album reached No. 20 on the Billboard charts and sold over 1,000,000 copies. Unfortunately, shortly after the release of his record, The D.O.C. had a car accident that dramatically affected his voice. The next album came many years later and bore no resemblance to his debut.
