About the album Television
The self-titled album of Television (often referred to as s/t), which was released in September 1992 by Capitol Records, marked the band's return after 14 years of absence. It was the band's third official studio album from New York.
Television moves in paths of Alternative Rock and new wave. It is characterized by the complex, interlocking guitars of Verlaine and Lloyd, with a more mature and "restrained" sound compared to the past, but equally atmospheric and sharp. The production was done by the band itself with executive producers Fred Smith and Tom Verlaine. The recording took place at Acoustilog studio in New York. The main single of the album was Call Mr. Lee, which experienced a small success on alternative rock radio. Other standout tracks are 1880 or So, In World, and No Glamour For Willi. Tracks like The Rocket resulted from spontaneous jams in the studio, where Richard Lloyd would add parts over rhythms played by Verlaine and Ficca.
In the USA, the album was initially released only on CD and cassette. The vinyl edition was extremely rare (only 2,000 promo copies) until the recent reissue of 2024.
