Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
About the album Daydream Nation
In July and August 1988, Sonic Youth recorded Daydream Nation, a double album that rightfully claims the title of the best noise rock album because it combines and incorporates elements from indie rock to art-punk. In 2005, it was added to the National Recording Registry list of the USA, making it a treasure for the American nation (!)
In order to write Daydream Nation, Sonic Youth relied on the melodies brought to the studio by their guitarist, Thurston Moore. Subsequently, the other members would contribute their own musical touches. The album's production was carried out by the band members and Nick Sansano. The iconic cover of Daydream Nation is a work by the German artist Gerhard Richter titled Kerze, meaning "candle." The album's title comes from a lyric in the song Hyperstation, which is part of the 14-minute composition Trilogy that closes the record.
Daydream Nation has sold only 162,000 copies in the USA. As a result, it never entered the Billboard Top-200. However, this did not prevent music magazines and critics from placing it on lists of the best or most influential albums of all time for American rock music.
