About the album Sister
The fourth album by Sonic Youth is titled Sister and was released in 1987. Sonic Youth continues to build their legend with this album, which laid the foundation that skyrocketed their popularity in the alternative and underground circles of New York. Musically, Sister moves between alternative rock, post-punk, and naturally, noise rock. Its sound, in general, creates an eerie atmosphere.
The recordings of the album took place in March and April of 1987. The entire album is inspired by the life and work of science fiction writer Philip K. Dick, and the title Sister refers to the author's twin sister who died shortly after her birth and whose memory haunted Philip K. Dick throughout his life (!)
Although at the time of its release Sister was rather indifferent to the public and critics, today it is considered one of the most important albums of noise rock, an album that defined and characterized the genre.
