About the album Bundles

Bundles is the eighth studio album by Soft Machine, which was released on March 22, 1975. It is considered a turning point for the band as it marked the transition to a purebred jazz-rock fusion sound. The album was recorded in July 1974 at CBS Studios in London. The production was undertaken by Soft Machine themselves. For Mike Ratledge (keyboards) - the only remaining founding member - it was the last album.

The album moves away from their experimental avant-garde past and adopts a more easy-listening but skillful fusion style. The Hazard Profile suite stands out, occupying most of the first side. On the album cover, we see a painting by Reg Cartwright. The original release from Harvest Records was a simple grey cover with the central artwork and photos of the members on the back cover.

Bundles received laudatory reviews upon its release, mainly due to Holdsworth's guitar prowess. It remains one of the most beloved albums of Soft Machine's later period.
