About the album Doggystyle

The beginning for the new sound of hip hop on the West Coast was made in 1992 with The Chronic, Dr. Dre's own album, who took the then twenty-year-old Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., or Snoop Doggy Dogg (as was his stage name then), under his wing and together they recorded Doggystyle in 1993.

The producer and mastermind of the album is, of course, Dr. Dre, who cuts and sews samples of music from the dance and funk music of the '70s, layers them over beats, and on top of that Snoop Doggy Dogg never stops rapping with his distinctive voice provocative lyrics for the time about sex, girls, jails, drugs, etc. There were also some critics who accused Dr. Dre of offering the same album as The Chronic.

Apparently, the 11,000,000 fans around the world who bought Doggystyle had a different opinion. The album sold 806,858 copies in its first week on the market in the USA. Reaching No.1 in the USA was inevitable, while in the UK it reached No.38. The truth is, however, that this type of hip hop was not so widespread in Europe.
