About the album Streets: A Rock Opera

Streets: A Rock Opera by Savatage is one of the most iconic albums in the history of the band from the state of Florida, as well as in heavy metal, marking the transition of Savatage from a hard sound to more theatrical and progressive structures. Heavy metal, progressive metal, and rock opera are the musical styles in which the band's sixth discographic endeavor balances. In reality, it combines the aggression of metal with Broadway elements, classical music, and symphonic orchestrations. Jon Oliva's piano plays a dominant role, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of musicals.

The album is a concept album based on a book by producer Paul O'Neill and tells the story of DT Jesus. It's the story of a fallen rock star in New York who becomes a drug dealer. The plot of the lyrics follows his rise to glory for a second time and his final fall and spiritual redemption. The most well-known tracks are Jesus Saves, Believe, and Ghost In The Ruins. It was originally intended to be a double album with narrations between the songs, but the record label Atlantic Records insisted on compressing it into a single album. It was recorded between January and July 1991 at 321 Studios in New York.

Streets: A Rock Opera, although considered an artistic masterpiece and received rave reviews, its commercial success at the time was limited, partly due to the rise of grunge.
