Back From Hell by RUN D.M.C.
About the album Back From Hell
The new decade that began in 1990 did not find RUN D.M.C. in the best phase of their career. Hip hop had begun to change and they, as individuals, were facing serious issues ranging from financial troubles to addictions. Under these conditions, they prepared and released their fifth album titled Back From Hell in 1990.
In their effort to show that they were adapting to the new musical reality, they incorporated elements into their compositions from the contemporary trend in black music known as new jack swing. This is evident in the songs Faces and Pause, which were two of the three singles from Back From Hell. The album's production was done by themselves, with Jam Master Jay taking a leading role.
Back From Hell failed to excite both critics and the audience - at least not as much as the previous four works of the New York rappers had. The album reached No. 81 on the Billboard chart and barely sold 300,000 copies in the U.S.
