Rory Gallagher by Rory Gallagher
About the album Rory Gallagher
A few months after the breakup of Taste, Rory Gallagher recorded his first album in February 1971, thus inaugurating his personal solo career. Gallagher had chosen to have drummer Wilgar Campbell and bassist Gerry McAvoy on the recordings of the album. The Rory Gallagher album was released in April of the same year. The producer of the album is the artist himself. The album was recorded at Advision Studios in London.
The ten songs on the album are compositions by Rory Gallagher and their musical style is in the blues rock genre, but also contains elements of folk and jazz music. For example, in Can't Believe It's True, which closes the album, we hear Gallagher himself playing a jazz solo on the saxophone.
The album reached No. 27 in Ireland, No. 93 in the United Kingdom, while among the highest positions it recorded were No. 13 in Switzerland and No. 16 in Germany. (!) Probably the European tour with Taste in 1970 helped it gain traction in these countries.
