Irish Tour '74 by Rory Gallagher
About the album Irish Tour '74
In July 1974, the double live-recorded album Irish Tour '74 was released. It is considered one of the most legendary live albums of all time, capturing Rory Gallagher and his band at their best. The album was recorded in Belfast at the Carlton Cinema and at the Town Hall of Cork, the city where Gallagher grew up. The concerts took place on January 2nd and 3rd, 1974.
The concert in Belfast took place 24 hours after one of the biggest IRA attacks in the city, during which ten bombs had exploded. Everyone thought that the concert would be canceled, but Rory Gallagher did not back down. The album contains ten songs. Four of them are covers of blues songs, four are from the album Tattoo, and two are from the album Blueprint. It is estimated that over 230,000 copies of this double album have been sold in Great Britain alone.
The British director Tony Palmer filmed many of the Irish Tour appearances intending to create a television tribute, but eventually, seeing the excellent material he had captured with his cameras, he went on to release a proper film titled "Irish Tour '74".
