About the album Message From A Drum

The 1971 release Message From A Drum is the third album by Redbone, the leading Native American band, and is considered one of the most important milestones in their career. The album features a rich "blend" of sounds often described as swamp rock and funk rock.

Redbone combined different genres of music, such as rock, R&B, cajun, funk, soul, and latin rock, all accompanied by the use of Native American percussion and rhythms. The production was done by brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas, who also wrote most of the songs. The recordings took place in studios in Los Angeles and San Francisco with the participation of experienced sound engineers. Notably, the album was also released in a quadraphonic edition in 1972, offering a unique acoustic experience for the time.

The album achieved significant success, mainly due to the single The Witch Queen Of New Orleans, which reached No. 21 on the American Billboard Hot 100 and was their only major hit in the United Kingdom. The Message From A Drum album reached No. 75 on the Billboard.
