About the album Diamonds And Pearls
For the recording needs of his thirteenth album, Prince works with the band New Power Generation, with whom the collaboration had started the previous year and lasted until 2013. Diamonds And Pearls will be a lengthy album (it will be released on double vinyl) containing 13 songs that primarily move between funk and new jack swing, a trend in black music during that time period.
Diamonds And Pearls was made for dancing. A large part of its promotion relied on the exposure through the video clips that accompanied its singles and also the presence in the concerts that followed, of two young dancers, Lori Elle and Robia LaMorte, who grooved to the rhythms of the songs. The first was Pearl and the second was Diamond (!)
The album achieved commercial success as it reached the Top-10 in many countries. In the U.S., it reached No.3. The album's sales are estimated to be around 6,000,000 copies worldwide.
