Around The World In A Day followed the huge commercial success of Purple Rain from the previous year and was easily (and unjustly) compared to it. Here Prince incorporates the psychedelic sound into his compositions and brings it into pop conditions.
The cover art technique (e.g., colors, shapes) is based on the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles. Prince himself is responsible for the production.
The album reached No.1 in the USA, while its sales are now estimated to be around 4,300,000.
