About the album Peter Gabriel

Two years after Peter Gabriel's departure from Genesis, the release of his first solo album comes in 1977, titled by the English artist's name. Almost all the compositions are credited to him, while the album's production is undertaken by the American Bob Ezrin, achieving an excellent result as Gabriel's European elements are perfectly combined with Ezrin's American ones.

This first album by Peter Gabriel is known among music lovers as Peter Gabriel I or Car due to its cover, which was created by Hipgnosis. Key contributors to the album's success and quality were Robert Fripp on guitars and Tony Levin on bass, who offered their rich talent to Peter Gabriel's effort.

Peter Gabriel's debut was an immediate success and was loved by audiences and critics alike. It reached No. 7 in the UK and No. 38 in the USA. In both countries, it went gold.
