About the album Electric
The album Electric, the twelfth studio album from the "golden" pop duo of the Pet Shop Boys, marked a new beginning for the duo as it was the first album released through their own record label, x2, and was also the first of a trilogy of albums produced by the Englishman Stuart Price. Electric was recorded between November 2012 and April 2013.
Compositions like Axis, Vocal, Inside A Dream, Shouting In The Evening or the cover of Bruce Springsteen's The Last To Die (!) predated their eleventh album, they just hadn't been perfected and were waiting in the drawer. The intention of the Pet Shop Boys was to create a dance record, and indeed although the entirety of the album is based on synth-pop, the elements of electro house and techno are more than evident. The first single from the album was Axis.
Electric reached No. 3 in the United Kingdom and No. 26 in the U.S. The Pet Shop Boys hadn't achieved such high positions on these two charts for about twenty years. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe seemed to be able to take center stage once again or, at the very least, present something interesting.
