Actually by Pet Shop Boys
About the album Actually
The British synth-pop duo that had emerged two or three years earlier from nowhere released their second LP titled Actually in 1987, establishing their name in the pop and dance music circles. The hits from Actually kept coming one after the other. At the same time, the Pet Shop Boys would leave their mark on the pop music of the second half of the '80s, as anyone could tell from the quality of their compositions that they weren't aiming for the ephemeral but something more timeless.
About half of the songs on Actually were already ready from the time of their first album (Please) and were just waiting in the drawer for the next release. This particular album determined a lot about their future career. It was the big gamble. If it resonated with the audience, then all roads would be open for Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. The singles Heart and It's A Sin did their job very well - there was, of course, the corresponding support from MTV, which played the music videos of the songs nonstop.
Actually immediately upon its release reached No. 2 in the UK, staying there because, quite simply and coincidentally, Michael Jackson with Bad was at No. 1. The album has now reached global sales of 4,000,000 copies.
