About the album Introspective

The Pet Shop Boys released their third album in 1988 and continued to enjoy publicity, success, and sales. Introspective managed to maintain the audience's interest with synth-pop, house, and dance pop, which also praised this album.

In terms of structure, Introspective was a peculiar album, beyond the recording norms of that era. It contains only six compositions, which are, however, of very long duration. The average duration of the songs is eight minutes, which made them not "radio-friendly" at all. The singles that emerged from Introspective were shortened versions of those found on the album.

One of the big hits of the album was the cover of Always On My Mind, a song that Elvis Presley highlighted in 1972. Beyond that, the album managed to sell 4,500,000 copies worldwide, while it reached No.2 in the United Kingdom.
