Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus is the thirteenth studio album by Nick Cave and his band, the Bad Seeds. This double album was released in 2004. The album has the peculiarity that the two disks that comprise it have different titles. Thus, we have the first disk with nine songs called Abattoir Blues and the second disk titled The Lyre Of Orpheus with another eight compositions.
The album and its seventeen compositions are a blend of blues rock and gothic rock, while the gospel element is present in many songs, supported by six guest singers and the backing vocals they provide. Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus was recorded at Studio Ferber in Paris in 12 days (!) Something Nick Cave himself chose was to use James Sclavunos as the drummer for Abattoir Blues and Thomas Wydler for the songs of The Lyre Of Orpheus. The album's production includes band members and producer Nick Launay.
The album is considered among the best works of the Australians. It managed to enter the Top-10 in many European countries. It stood out at No.1 in Greece and Norway, while it reached No.2 in Austria and Denmark (!)
