About the album Ommadawn

Ommadawn becomes the third album by Mike Oldfield. It was released in November 1975 by Virgin Records, and its completion required recordings that lasted from January to September of the same year. For the creation of the album, Mike Oldfield acted both as a producer and as a sound engineer.

In Ommadawn, Mike Oldfield presents a sound based on progressive rock, while also incorporating many new age elements. Ommadawn is essentially two compositions, with each covering one side of the vinyl in its original edition. The word used as the title means absolutely nothing. It was an inspiration of Mike Oldfield to add mystery to his musical work and to capture the interest of the public.

Ommadawn was a successful release in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 4, and in a relatively short period of time, it went gold, selling over 100,000 copies.
