About the album The Soulful Moods Of Marvin Gaye
The Soulful Moods Of Marvin Gaye from 1961 is the first album by one of the greatest figures in black and soul music of the 20th century, Marvin Gaye. In this album, we hear a 22-year-old Marvin Gaye trying to find his musical footing.
In this record, Marvin Gaye mainly chooses and covers jazz hits of those years or even earlier ones, written by composers such as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and Carolyn Leigh. The first single of the album is Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide by Berry Gordy, who wrote it at the time to support the new artist he had signed to his record label, Tamla Records. Berry Gordy was also the producer of the album.
Gaye's first album had absolutely no luck on the charts or sales. No one could have imagined to what point this artist would reach just ten years later with his album What's Going On.
