About the album Giant Steps

In 1960, John Coltrane, by recording Giant Steps, inaugurated his collaboration with Atlantic Records and created one of the most definitive and influential jazz albums of all time. Most of the album was recorded on May 4 and 5, 1959, while a few days earlier Coltrane had also participated in the recording of another legendary jazz album, A Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis (!)

The enormous value of Giant Steps for American cultural heritage was recognized when in 2004 it was selected by a special committee of the American Congress to be included in the National Recording Registry.

Beyond its artistic excellence, Giant Steps also became a commercial success as its sales have exceeded 500,000 copies, achieved slowly but steadily over the years.
