About the album Street Survivors

On October 17, 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd presented their fifth studio album titled Street Survivors. Three days later, on October 20, something occurred that would completely change the course of events for the band. Lynyrd Skynyrd and many people supporting them at their concerts were flying in a specially chartered plane from South Carolina to Louisiana. Just before the plane reached its destination, it ran out of fuel and crashed.

Most survived the accident, but there were three fatalities. These were the singer Ronnie Van Zant, the lead guitarist Steve Gaines, and his sister Cassie Gaines, who also worked for the band. Thus, the title and the cover of the album turned out to be completely prophetic and at the same time tragic. From then on, everything changed for Lynyrd Skynyrd, as it took them a decade to reunite the remaining members along with new members that were necessarily added to the band's ranks.

MCA Records initially withdrew the albums with the specific cover, and subsequent editions had a different one. Street Survivors reached No. 5 on the Billboard and is their highest-charting album in their homeland. In the USA alone, it has sold 2,000,000 copies. The album was produced by Tom Dowd.
