Black And White America by Lenny Kravitz
About the album Black And White America
Black And White America is Lenny Kravitz's ninth studio album, released in August 2011. It is one of his most personal works, inspired by his multicultural heritage and the experiences of his parents as an interracial couple in the 1960s. The cover is an authentic photo of Kravitz from his childhood (around 7 years old), taken by his father, Sy Kravitz. This choice was made to emphasize the autobiographical nature of the album.
The album is an eclectic mix of funk, rock, soul, and R&B. It also includes elements of jazz fusion and collaborations that flirt with hip-hop. The production, composition, and orchestration were entirely signed by Lenny Kravitz himself. In fact, he played almost all the musical instruments on the album. Black And White America also features Jay-Z on the track Boongie Drop and Drake on Sunflower. The main singles that stood out are Come On Get It, Stand, Rock Star City Life, among others.
The album achieved greater success in Europe, reaching No. 1 in Germany and Switzerland. In the USA, it debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard 200. It went gold in countries such as France, Poland, and Argentina (!)
