About the album Led Zeppelin I
The four members of Led Zeppelin entered London's Olympic studios in September 1968, and by the following month, they had written and recorded the songs for their first album, one of the most influential records in rock music, demonstrating that blues rock could be played in a harder way and become hard rock. In January 1969, Led Zeppelin I was available to the public. The songs from the album emerged during the Scandinavian tour the band undertook. They wrote them there and had the opportunity to present and test them there.
The album also showcased a technological advancement. It was the first album released only in stereo. Until then, albums were released in both mono and stereo versions. The album cover made a particular impression, which was a retouched photograph of the German Zeppelin LZ 129 Hindenburg, which burst into flames as it landed in Lakehurst, New Jersey, on May 6, 1937.
At the time of its release, Led Zeppelin I reached No. 6 in Great Britain and No. 10 in the USA. Its total sales to date exceed 10,000,000 copies worldwide.
