About the album Voodoo

The 1998 Voodoo is one of King Diamond's darkest and most atmospheric moments, immersing the listener in the suffocating horror of 1932 Louisiana. Voodoo is King Diamond's eighth album, in a theatrical heavy metal style. The composers are King Diamond and Andy LaRocque. The production was done by themselves, and the recording took place at Nomad Recording Studio (Dallas) and Los Angered Recording (Sweden).

The album's plot unfolds in 1932 in Louisiana. The Lafayette family moves into a colonial mansion next to a voodoo cemetery. Thematically, the album is essentially divided into three parts: The Clash: The Lafayettes decide to destroy the cemetery, provoking the wrath of their servant, Salem, and the magician Doctor Le Croix. The Curse: Through black magic and "goofer dust," the pregnant Sarah becomes possessed. The End: The exorcism by Father Malone fails miserably, with the possessed Sarah injuring him badly with a large cross. The child is later born speaking... backwards.

Voodoo is considered a commercial milestone for King Diamond's solo career, reaching No. 27 in Finland and No. 55 in Sweden and the Netherlands.
